Morning Drive

I guide Daisy along.
Next to me, Steven prays, preparing to preach.
Sweet sunrise, early morning mist on heron lake.
The sky on God's Day displays His artful expertise.

Daisy slows.
Country church.
Big-hearted, white-haired, quick to smile and easy to love.
Strong arms and soft shoulders.
Funny and wise.
We're home.

"The sky on God's Day displays His artful expertise"

A lovely line. Of course, the sky displays His artful expertise every day. But I know what you mean, too. We're not always of the right frame of mind to notice. Some days do stand out more than others.

As with Cricket, I know what you mean. There's something ineffably different about a Sunday.

I will show my age (61) by saying that I actually remember a time before Southern churches were brick veneer. Back then, they were--the country ones anyway--invariably of white clapboard. Then the brick-look became fashionable, and nearly all of them were bricked over. I always hoped that someday the brick would be taken off. Now that I'm in Oregon, there simply aren't so many churches, and brick never caught on here anyway, which is just as well seeing as how much of the state is in an earthquake zone.
